Because a chartered accountant has been trained in the business to enable them to pass the Institutes minimum standards, they will charge higher fees. With membership to their professions senior Institute comes certain responsibilities on their part. They will offer a very high standard of professionalism in their work and will be subject to strict monitoring by their peers. They will also have their work backed up by professional indemnity insurance.
If, due to budget restraints, you decide to hire a certified accountant because they charge lower fees, there is a chance that the services that they can provide you will not be adequate. This will mean that you will have to pay more in the long term. The main reason for this is that they will not have the rights to satisfy some of the legal requirements necessary for your business.
The main consideration you should make if your company is looking to hire an accountant is that if they are not chartered they cannot legally sign your accounts. Their signature is not acceptable by the government, or by certain financial institutions. A chartered accountants signature is acceptable in law, and will simplify your accounting processes a great deal.
Obviously there are some accountants who will convince you that their training is exactly the same as that of their chartered counterparts, and they could provide the services you require. This is not strictly true as they have not passed the entrance examination for their professions Institute. This will mean that to complete the tasks that you want them to do. They would have to hire somebody who has the privileges of a chartered accountant.
The main task of a chartered accountant is to generate financial records that are both accurate and reliable. They will normally be found working inside a corporate structure, creating reports that satisfy auditors and the government’s taxation services. Another major task of theirs is to advise companies on financial strategies.
When finally selecting the accountant that you need, make sure you fully understand the qualifications and certifications they hold. They must be in a position where they can adequately complete the tasks that you will need them to do. Inevitably you will find that a chartered accountant will charge more than a certified or technician accountant. Nevertheless, you will find that the package that they offer will be greater and offer a much higher standard of work.
